Want to try something a bit different, then download our toolbar for Firefox and Internet Explorer 5+, its not an official release yet so its only avalible to blog readers right now . The toolbar allows you to keep right up to date with the latest developments as well as allowing you to update your twitter status through DDC, you can also leave a status update on the Map which will also be posted to twitter.
check your toolbar regularly as new bits will be added as the site progresses.

The new homepage went live today. The emphasis is now user generated content as soon as you visit the site. Your latest updates are posted on the homepage including whether you’ve made a map update, which is a new feature. Random user discussions are also shown at the bottom to encourage users to participate more in community conversation, you must be logged in to comment on discussion posts. All blogs that fulfill the criteria will appear in the ‘Hot Blogs’ section, giving everyone the chance to get more exposure.
You can also stay right up to date with the latest site developments on the homepage, with our latest blog posts. We’re still extensively overhauling the site, and if you have and suggestions let us know in the discussions.

Just so everyone can keep updated on the rapid developments of the site you can grab this handy widget to put on your blog that has both our blog feed and twitter feed in it. You can add it to all your social networks and allow your readers to network on dotdashcreate.

Things are starting to take shape and the latest page to get a re-vamp is the sign up form. It isn’t live yet but we thought we’d give you a sneaky peak of whats to come. There we’re lots of issues that needed to be addressed. Mainly security. However something that was pretty bad was that if you filled in the form and submitted it, but forgot to add your email address the page would re-fresh loosing your infomation meaning you had to add it again. This has been eliminated by using ajax to process the sign up request, not only is it quicker to start using the site but less anoying if there is a problem submitting your data.

This weekend we launched the new ‘browse’ section of the site which includes, the blog directory where you can now clearly select a category. This section is far more organised and a refreshing change to the old page. There is also a tab for the latest updates which allows you to see all the latest updates and track users through to their twitter account. A new users is also avaliable to those who have complete profile details and a blog added. The style and user interface of this page is the direction that we are heading inwith the Phase 3 re-generation and development of the site.
There will be much more in the coming weeks.

The amount of registered users with Googlemail accounts is large, so we have decided to allow you to invite your address book contacts from your google account. You first type your gmail username and password (neither of which will be stored.) Your gmail username is the part before the @gmail.com. For example if my email address is joeblogs@gmail.com, then my username is joeblogs. You will then see all your address book contacts with a tick box next to each one. You then need to select the users you want to invite and hit the ‘Invite’ button. You will then see a confirmation that your invites were sent.
In the future we will look to support more mail clients, and also allow you to add your friends easily through your contact list.

Phase 3 of the development process is well underway and one of the features that we’re looking forward to unveiling is our grabable widget which syncs with your dotdashcreate profile and activitly and also shows you how many users have visited your blog since you added it to your blog or site. You will also be able to add it to your MySpace and other social networks.

With the current developments taking place across the whole site platform there haven’t been any noticable changes or new features recently. However this will change pretty soon with the launch of our new homepage which will reflect the way the site is going with the release of phase3.

So its been a few weeks since the last post on here and there are a few developments that are currently taking place across the site. We are currently working on a new framework that will allow the site to be scalable in the future, making it easier to build new applications. The site will go through a small re-jig making existing features easier and more intuitive to use whilst brushing up on the complete user experience. There is no official launch date planned for phase 3 as yet but there will be regular posts here explaining the latest developments.
